Aurtheral Diggs, 84, of Vallejo passed away peacefully on June 17, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Boughchitto, Mississippi to John and Ida Bell Evans. Aurtheral accepted Christ at a very young age at Springfield Baptist Church, and her faith and the love for the Lord never wavered. Aurtheral came to Vallejo, CA. with her husband, Johnnie Diggs Jr., and she became a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Vallejo where she severed the Lord there for 61 years.
Aurtheral, was best known by many as Mrs. Diggs, the pre-school teacher. She was a dedicated pre-school teacher for Vallejo Unified School District. She was also an excellent seamstress and furniture upholster.
She is survived by Darrell Diggs, (Betty) of Sacramento, Wanda Diggs of Vallejo, Johnnie Armstrong (Earl) of Suisun City, Michele Diggs of Vallejo; she has 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ida Bell Evans; sister, Mary Louise Gregory; brother, John Evans Jr.; ex-husband, Johnnie Diggs Jr.; son, Eric David Diggs; and grandson, Jacovis Diggs.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 21, from 3 to 8 p.m., with a quiet hour from 7 to 8 p.m., at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, 524 Capitol St., Vallejo.
Funeral service will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church 530 3rd St., Vallejo, on Saturday, June 22, at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be private.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home.
