Esperanza "Grandma Panching" Cayabyab, 90, passed away on July 16, in Esparto, CA, at the home of Vincent and Melynda Medalle where she received wonderful and loving care. She was surrounded by family members who loved and admired her dearly.
Preceded in death by her past husbands, Mauricio Calica in 1961 and husband, Eustaquio Cayabyab 1998, she is survived by her two daughters, Lily (Leonardo) Cayabyab and Lilani (Vicente) Medalle; six grandchildren, Laura (Anthony) Chavez, Leonard (Jeannette) Cayabyab, Vincent (Melynda) Medalle, Dominic (Marie) Medalle, Lisa Cayabyab and Brandon Medalle; and seven great-grandchildren, Ricky, Jynelle, Eddie, Talia, Maia, Layla and Anela.
Esperanza was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, the La Union Club of Vallejo and attended functions at the Vallejo Filipino Community Center.
Born in the city of Bauang La Union, Philippines, Esperanza was a long time resident of Vallejo for more than 60 years. She was a generous, helpful, no-nonsense woman who had many friends and was loved by everyone. Esperanza made everyone feel welcome in her home by repeatedly asking them to eat. She was known for cooking savory, Filipino home-cooked meals but prided herself especially on making lumpia and her famous dessert, Biko. She loved to sew and create beautiful articles of clothing as well as practical items for her home. Esperanza loved her daughters and would talk to them daily just to hear their voices. She took pride in her grandchildren, their spouses and her great grandchildren. She put family first and loved them unconditionally.
Visitation will be on Sunday, July 21 from 1 to 9 p.m., and Monday, July 22 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a vigil at 7 p.m., at Colonial Chapels, 1000 Redwood St., Vallejo.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 23 at 10 a.m., at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 925 Sacramento St., Vallejo. Burial at St. Vincent Cemetery, 550 Glen Cove Pkwy, Vallejo.
