April 10, 1953 - Aug. 27, 2012
Francis Ellis Gentry, Jr., better known to all as "Scooter", was born on April 10, 1953 to Ruby and Francis E. Gentry, Sr. He passed away at age 59 at his home in Vallejo, CA., on Aug. 27. On Dec. 31, 2007 he was united in marriage to Donna Bitter in Reno, NV.
Scooter was born and raised in Vallejo, CA., until he moved to the Sierra Foothills where he found his passion for horses. He truly enjoyed living in the Colfax area until he and his wife, Donna, decided to return to Vallejo in 2011 to help care for his ailing father.
Scooter was a member of Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3 for over 35 years as a tower crane operator and business representative until he retired in 2010. He was a very strong believer in union rights. Scooter was also a volunteer fire fighter
in Alta, CA., and a member of the Oddfellows Olive Lodge in Dutch Flat, CA.
Scooter cherished the relationships he had with his daughter, Angela Ross, and his three grandchildren living in Lompoc and Vacaville, CA. He made sure he spoke to at least one of them nearly every day to let them know how much he loved them. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends whether it be horseback riding, camping, rodeo weekends, motor boatin' on Rollins Lake, Raider games, or on a cruise ship winning both the "Sexiest Legs" contest and the "Belly Flop" contest. You could always count on Scooter to provide entertainment. We will miss his sense of humor.
Scooter is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Angela and Cecedra; grandchildren, Serena, Tre'Vaughn, and Vaughn Yae'; brother, Jody; many nieces, nephews and cousins; his second mom, Myrna; and his girls Dally and Sissy.
Anyone who knew Scooter will tell you that he had the biggest heart and touched the life of everyone he came in contact with, both friends and strangers, always bringing warmth and laughter to their life. His presence in our life was a gift we will always be thankful for.
Scooter was laid to rest on Sept. 8, at the Oddfellows Cemetery in Dutch Flat, CA. Cremation and arrangements entrusted to Twin Chapels Mortuary, Vallejo (707) 552-6696. Please visit the online tribute at TwinChapelsMortuary.com
