Gerald "Augie" Lee August, 68, a longtime resident of Vallejo, passed away May 15, 2006 at home.
He was born in Crowley, La., April 27, 1938, to the parents of Harry H. and Alice August. The family moved to Vallejo in 1944 where he was educated at Vallejo schools and Solano College.
After school he served in the United States Navy for four years and eight months where he received an Honorary Discharge as a Master Chief. He worked for Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a Nuclear Inspector and retired after 33 years of civil service.
He accepted Christ at the age of six and was baptized at Second Baptist Church, Vallejo. As a member of the church he faithfully served as a member of the youth and senior choirs. He was active in his community, coached both of his sons in Little League Baseball and enjoyed fishing as a hobby.
Gerald was united in marriage to Gloria Holmes. He leaves to cherish his loving wife Gloria and four children: Judith Boston, Dana Point, CA; Gerald August, Vacaville; Yvette Michelle August and Brendan August of Vallejo. His eight grandchildren include TaNeka August, Tyanah August, Brendan August, Brianna August, Brinnia August, Brejanae August, Elijah Cameron August, Khemani August and his great-granddaughter, Katie Streeper.
He also leaves his beloved mother Alice August of Vallejo; his brothers, Billy and Dale August of Vallejo; three sisters, Pandora White of Vallejo; Artimae Shephard and Perda Harris of Moreno Valley; sisters-in-law, Annie Gafford of Vallejo and Ruthie Holmes of Benicia, brothers-in-law, Alfred White of Vallejo and Melvin Holmes of Benicia; daughter-in-law, Raina August, loving nieces and nephews and a host of loving cousins and friends.
His father Harry August and brother George preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. with a quiet hour at 6 p.m., Monday, May 22 at Cooley & Riolo Mortuary, Vallejo. A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Union Baptist Church, 128 Encerti Ave., Vallejo with Pastor Wallace K. Shepherd, Jr. officiating.
