On June 22, John Reed Jr. passed away peacefully at Sutter Solano Hospital surrounded by his two daughters. John was born Jan. 26,1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to John Reed Sr. and Alean Hobson. He has been a Vallejo resident for the past 38 years.
John joined the United States Air Force
in 1955 as a Radio Ground Operator. While serving he fought in Vietnam and the end of the Korean War
. He received many awards and honors for his accomplishments until retiring in 1975. After retiring from the Air Force John went on to work as a pipefitter at Mare Island until it closed in 1996. He also worked at Ogden Imports for some time until he was forced to retire following a massive stroke.
John was an avid fisherman who collected many fishing rods over his lifetime. He also enjoyed playing cards, relaxing in his recliner while watching movies, but mostly cherished family time and always brought his family together. John's most devoted companion, Titus, his chihuahua stayed and watched over John for over a decade. The family lost an honorable man and no words can describe how much he is loved and what impact he has made in everyone's lives.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Arsenia C. Reed; his parents, and his brother, Clarence Reed. He is survived by his daughters, Cindy and Connie; his grandkids, Daniel, Jenna, Jasmine and his great-grandchild, Amiya; his sisters, Evelyn (Tyrone), Charlene (Douglas), Delores (Donald), Donna (Ray), Sandra (Jerome), and his brothers, Raymond (Martha), Lawrence (Toni), along with many other distant relatives.
The viewing will be held on Friday, June 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will follow on Saturday, June 29 at 11 a.m., at Skyview Memorial Lawn, 200 Rollingwood Drive, Vallejo. The burial will be at All Souls Cemetery, 550 Glen Cove Pkwy, Vallejo. Arrangements made by Skyview Memorial.
