Joseph Leo "Joe" McCoulf, 81, passed away Wednesday at Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo following a brief illness.
Joe was born to Joseph L. Sr. and Lillian Dodge McCoulf on Jan. 8, 1931 in Kenmore, NY. He grew up in Kenmore and was a graduate of Kenmore High School. He has lived in Vallejo the past 61 years where he graduated from Vallejo Junior College and Mare Island Apprentice School. He received his teaching credential from U.C. Berkeley.
Joe served our country in the Marine Corps Reserve 1948-49 and the U.S. Coast Guard
1949-52. He worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a Nuclear Reactor Plant General Foreman for 37 years, retiring in 1986. Upon his retirement he worked at Vallejo Stationers for 10 years. He was a very active member of our community including St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars

#559, life member of the Marines' Memorial Club, Kaiser Hospital Volunteer, player agent for Vallejo Little League and a founding member of the Vallejo Police Reserve where he served as Vice President for many years.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edwin "Nick" McCoulf.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Patricia; sons, Michael (Cindy), Steven, Paul (Chris), James (Diana); grandchildren, Katie, Kyle, Julie, Shannon, Cherie (Anthony), Aidan, Riley, Megan, Payton, Billy and Steven; great-grandchildren, Isaak, Eli, Xavier, Logan, Sarah, and Savanah; brother-in-laws, Lawrence Doyle and Gary Zalesky; sister-in-laws, Jackie Doyle, Kathleen Zalesky and Ellen McCoulf; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 4 to 9 p.m., Sunday with a rosary at 7 p.m., Sunday at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo. Funeral Mass will be held 1 p.m., Monday at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 925 Sacramento St., Vallejo. Entombment will follow at All Souls Catholic Cemetery, Vallejo.
Memorial contributions are preferred to St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church or St. Patrick-St.Vincent High School.
