Marion (Sue) Hilton Marek

Dec. 14, 1920 - March 25, 2013
Born Dec. 14, 1920 in Vallejo, Sue passed on March 25, at the age of 92 in Cazadero, where she lived with her son. Sue was a life-long Vallejo resident, a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. Sue was the daughter of Mary Hilton, a prominent Vallejo businesswoman (Bedford Furniture on Marin St.). Sue was preceded in death by her husband, John, six years ago. John and Sue were married in Aug. 1940 at Saint Vincent's Church. John Marek was the Postmaster in Vallejo for many years. Sue volunteered at the Senior Center gift shop and often assisted at charity events held by the Elks and Moose Lodges. She maintained close ties with her fellow long-time Vallejoans and Vallejo High School graduates at monthly lunches and was a member of the Vallejo Elks Lodge 559. Sue is survived by her two sons, John (Jay) Marek, Jr. of Cazadero, entrepreneur; and Michael (Mike) Marek, of Sacramento, retired Federal Government employee and Vallejo police officer. "Sue, Mom, Grams, GG" will be missed for her keen wit and willingness to participate in all the family gatherings, especially a rousing domino game of Chicken Foot. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Ellie Marek and five grandchildren, Joelle Treanor, John Marek, III (JJ), Deena Pontious, Michele Castor Childress, Dr. Nicole Faro, and Gabriele Cohen. Surviving great grandchildren include Amanda, Noah, Jordan, Taylor, Devin, Quinn, Eli, John (Micky), Jessica, Joshua, Zachary, and Chelsea. Preceding Sue in passing were her daughter-in-law, Kathy Marek (January 2013) and her great granddaughter, Holly.
