Norma Jean Aton, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died Dec. 21, after a short illness, at the age of 87 in Roseville, CA.
Norma was born Norma Jean Anna VenJohn in Nashville, Kansas on Dec. 21, 1925 to Casper and Mary VenJohn. In 1945, after junior college she left Garden City for Colorado Springs and was employed at Peterson AFB until 1947. Back home to Garden City until 1948, then off to Los Angeles, CA. She was back working for the Air Force 1950 - 1953. Married in Riverside in 1953, she began working for Rheem Manufacturing in Downey, CA., that same year. The first of her three sons was born in 1955. In 1960 the young family moved from the LA area to Northern CA., first to Fairfield then settling in Vallejo until 1978 when she moved to Benicia. She settled into Roseville, CA., in 2002 until her final relocation to be with our Father in Heaven.
Norma was employed with the Department of the Navy for 30 years, retiring at age 65 as Supervisor and contracts specialist. After retirement she volunteered with the Vallejo General Hospital Guild where she was the first two time guild president. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, going to the movies, fine dinning and bridge with her friends. Her greatest joy was all the special times spent with her family - they were all special times. Norma was a gentle and beautifully spirited woman, mother, grandmother and friend with a warm heart that came out through her smile.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Casper and Mary VenJohn and her brothers, Glen, Edward, Paul and Robert VenJohn. She leaves behind her sons, Richard Aton of Vallejo, David Aton and his wife Patricia of Roseville and Douglas Aton of Roseville; grandchildren, Jamie and her husband Shane of Roseville, Joseph of Copperas Cove, TX, Christopher of Davis, CA, Matthew of Vacaville, CA and Cory in New Hampshire. She was blessed with one great-grandchild, Isaac.
Services will be held at St Clare's Catholic Church, 1950 Junction Blvd., Roseville, CA., on Friday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow at Timber Creek Ballroom, 7050 Del Webb Blvd., Roseville, CA.
