Bob went to eternal peace with Jesus at 60 years young. He defeated cancer in the end, holding on to his faith, joy, peace, sense of humor and good attitude.
Born in Chester, PA, he was a lifelong Phillies fan, win or lose. In 1962 the family moved to Vallejo. He went to St. Basil's, Cooper Elementary, Vallejo Jr. High and Vallejo High, graduating in 1971. He graduated from Solano Community College in 1982.
Bob enlisted in the US Navy
in Oct. 1971 and served proudly on three different ships, USS Bansell DD-845, USS Schnectady LST-1185 and the USS Denver LPD-9. He enjoyed going to his Navy reunions around the country. Honorably discharged in 1975, he was hired by UPS where he worked proudly as a package driver and car washer for 31 years, retiring in Dec. 2006. He made many friends along the way and was an excellent co-worker.
He loved many sports, playing and coaching his kids and their friends. he also enjoyed auto racing and the WWE.
Preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Mary (Scicchitano) Vezo.
Surviving him are his girlfriend, Laurie Raye Souza; son, Dan (Angela) of Klamath Falls; daughter, Risa (Aaron) James of Klamath Falls; granddaughters, Samantha and Jesse Vezo; grandsons, Isaiah and Elijah James; brother, Jim; aunt, Mary Vezo, Kulpmont PA; aunt, Jeannette Scicchitano of SF; cousin, Michael Vezo of PA; numerous other cousins and many many friends.
He was a member of American Legion Post 104 (Past Commander), VFW
Post 1123, Teamsters Local 490.
In 1992 he became a born again Christian. He has been an active member of Open Door Christian Church the past seven years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vallejo Benicia Humane Society or the Christian Help Center.
A celebration of life will be held at Church on the Hill, Vallejo, Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at Open Door Christian Church, 3353 Broadway St. Cremation and arrangements made by Colonial Chapels. Inurnment will be at the Veterans Cemetery, Dixon.
