Steve Fernandez

Nov. 14, 1948 – March 31, 2013
Steve went home to be with His Lord on Resurrection Sunday. He was born on Nov. 14, 1948 to Carroll and Annie Fernandez. The second eldest in a family of nine children, Steve was full of life and passion from a young age. He grew up in Pinole and attended Richmond High School. When he was 18 he met the love of his life and best friend, Karen Delchini on a blind date and married her on May 7, 1972. His life changed forever when he came to believe in the saving blood of Jesus Christ in 1970 through the evangelism of his younger brother, Matt. His passion to preach the Gospel throughout the world was ignited.
Steve graduated from Hayward State University and went to Dallas Theological Seminary where he earned a Masters degree in Divinity. In 1980 God burdened Steve to plant a church in Vallejo. In October of that year he was sent out by his home church, Valley Bible in Hercules, and he founded Community Bible Church. The church now has over 1,000 faithful attendees, as well as The Cornerstone Seminary in 2006, which is a training ground for men who are also burdened to preach the Gospel of Christ to all peoples, tongues and nations, just as Steve was. God allowed Steve to travel all over the world to train and equip pastors in the preaching and teaching of His Word.
Steve was a loving pastor, husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He leaves behind his wife, Karen Fernandez, his best friend; three children, Amy (Adam) Gordon, Ian (Charisse) Fernandez and Lindsey (Troy) Joseph, all from Vallejo; five grandchildren, Derek, Brooke, Seth Gordon and Solomon and Giovanni Joseph; siblings, Susan, Matt, John, Mark, Jeff, Paul Fernandez, Mary Maxwell, all residing in the bay area and Brian who lives in Oregon; and not to mention a congregation of people-friends and fellow ministry workers alike-who will miss him dearly.
Steve was very loved and respected. He truly lived to see Christ exalted and glorified in his life. And while he will be greatly missed, we rejoice in knowing that he is in heaven with our glorious Savior.
Service will be held Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m., at North Creek Church, 2303 Ygnacio Valley Rd., Walnut Creek.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of Skyview Memorial Lawn.
