Jan. 28, 1932 - Jan. 14, 2013
Charles Edgar Cachelin "Charlie" joined his mother and father in Heaven on Jan. 14. Charlie was a descendent of a well known pioneer family in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska.
Charles was born in Fort Calhourn, NE. He was the youngest of six children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo; two sisters, Thelma (Gerst) Biggs and Illa (McNew) Wenzel, and a brother, Urban Cachelin.
Survivors include two sisters, Frances Shephard and JoAnn (Hansen) Crofton, many nieces and nephews; the love of his life and domestic partner, Mary Garcia, who has loved and cared for him through the good times and his illness.
Charles graduated from Fort Calhoun High School in the class of 1949. He then held various jobs until he decided to join the Navy. After 20 years, he retired to become an independent business owner in Vallejo. His sense of duty and integrity enabled him to be successful and gleaned him many loyal customers and life long friends.
He was an avid auto racing fan and a participant in his years on the East Coast while in the Navy. In 2002 he took up driving once again. On Saturday nights you would see him, his dwarf car, and his pit crew at the Antioch Raceway.
Charlie was an active participant in various activities in Vallejo, Bocce' ball, pool league and bowling. His collection of trophies attest to his ability to be "The Man".
Viewing will be at Colonial Chapels, from 1 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 23, 1000 Redwood St., Vallejo. A final drink and buffet (at Charlie's request) will be held at Characters Saloon on Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. Charles will buy a round and say a final goodbye to everyone.
Charlie's final resting place will be next to his mother in Fort Calhoun, after services in the Church of his youth, Ft. Calhoun Presbyterian.
A very special thank you goes to the three wonderful people who gave so generously of their love to help ensure Charlie could be in his own home surrounded by love and his many precious possessions. Thank you, Rene Lopez, Tammy Chance and David Chance. May God Bless You, you have kept me strong, Mary.
GoodBye Charles, my heart goes with you.
