Claude R. (Bud) Budding passed away on July 15, after a short illness. Bud was born Aug. 15, 1926, in New London, CT. He moved several times as a child because of his father's military service before settling in Vallejo in 1940. He graduated from Vallejo High School in 1944, after which he enlisted in the US Navy. Upon discharge from the Navy he worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a machinist. He retired 38 years later as a supervisor in Nuclear Planning and Estimating.
He was active in scouting over several decades and served as a Cub Master (Pack 162) and a Scout Master (Troop 62) and also served on the Silverado Area Council Training Staff. He was an avid archer and bowler and, later in life, karaoke became his passion. He loved sports, and had San Francisco 49ers season tickets for many years. He also belonged to the Elks Club and often gifted American flags to people.
Bud was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Augusta, in 2004 and by his brother, William. He is survived by his brother, Henry "Pete" Budding, and his children, John, Nancy, Robert, and Debra; seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held at Merrill Gardens, 350 Locust Drive, Vallejo, at 2 p.m., on Sunday, July 21. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Molly's Angels, 433 Soscol Ave., Suite A-110B, Napa, CA 94559.
