Glenn Francis Dykes, 83 passed away Saturday, July 20, in Napa. Born May 11, 1930 in Napa, his family came from Florida. Both Mom (Matilda) and Dad (Harry) worked at the State Hospital. They built their home 85 years ago. Glen had three brothers, Harry Jr. (Jan), James (Joyce) and Sedwick. Glen was the last boy to pass away.
He went to Napa High and was a pitcher for the baseball team, also went to Napa Junior College where he played ball too. He served in the Korean War with the 6th Infantry Division from Fort Ord, CA.
He started work for the Post Office in 1954 as a mailman and retired in 1985. He was a member of Native Sons of the Golden West #62 He was an avid hunter and fisherman, also enjoyed gardening and of course watching baseball. His favorite team where the Dodgers, even when they were in Brooklyn and he always enjoyed sitting on his front porch having a cigar.
He is survived by five nieces, Christine Hart (Lee), Susan Goodwill (David), Kathryn Dykes, Georgene Lichau (Randall), Jennifer Dykes, and one nephew, Scott Dykes. Also great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 2, at 1 p.m., at Napa Valley Memorial Park Mortuary. Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 1, from 3 to 8 p.m. Interment will be private at Napa Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Napa Valley Hospice, 414 S. Jefferson St., Napa, CA 94559.
