The Life and Legacy of John Henry Ivory.
Born Oct. 6, 1939 in Wharton, Texas to Eleck Ivory and Carrie Johnson. He was raised in Texas and attended Glen Flora Elementary then graduated from T.L. Pink High School in Glen Flora (Wharton, TX) in 1958.
He received Christ at an early age. He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Egypt, Texas. He later united with Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Suisun, CA.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 and fought in the Vietnam War with the Infantry Division. After the war he was stationed at Fort Ord in Monterey, CA. After he was honorably discharged he and his first wife, Bettye Ivory and family moved to Vallejo. He began work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard where he was a machinist at Shop 31 and was the Shop Steward. John and Bettye later divorced. John remarried the love of his life, Lynda. This love spanned 15 years until his death on Oct. 15.
John had a passion for helping people; he put people before himself. If you needed him to do a job you could count on him to do it right or he wouldn't do it at all. John always needed to keep busy. After he retired Civil Service he started a landscaping business and got a contract with the city of American Canyon with his Janitorial service. He retired from the City of American Canyon due to illness.
John was a man who could never be still. He loved fishing, playing cards partnered with his wife Lynda against his sister, Ida and brother-in law, Herman. He loved going to the casino and especially enjoyed the buffet, he also enjoyed going to the San Francisco Giants and 49er games with his kids even though he was a Cowboys fan. He was a past member of a local Corvette club. He loved spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Joey.
