Jose V. Oriarte Notice
Dec. 7, 1926 - Nov. 11, 2013
Jose passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Vallejo, he was a longtime resident of San Leandro. Jose was a graduate of Salinas Valley High School and joined both the Merchant Marine and United States Army, honorably discharged in 1944. He retired as a Manager of BART for 28 years of service. He was an active member of the Filipino Heritage Society of Stockton and the Moose and Elks Lodges.
Jose is survived by his loving family, daughters, Gwendolyn Messner, Denise Balanza and Jody Lee Michelle Oriarte-Focarazza; sons, Robert Michael Stukey, Valentino Oriarte Anderson, and Jose Guillermo Oriarte. He is loved and will be missed by his 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; his beloved brothers, George and Burton Oriarte, and many nieces and nephews.
Jose was an avid sportsman, both as a youth and into his later years. He was a scratch golfer; he played golf well into his 80's, including annual golf trips to Hawaii with his brothers and golfing buddies.
Jose was a true renaissance man, ever the gentleman, and a connoisseur of fine wine, cooking and dining. His love of fashion, inimitable style of dress, neatness and cleanliness were a part of his life. His legacy of love, living life to the fullest, compassion, honor, and fair play were a large part of his personality. Shaka Brah!
