Sept. 30, 1930 - Jan. 13, 2013
Patricia was born in Bancroft, Iowa on Sept. 30, 1930 to William Edward Quinn and Isabel Margaret (Lattimer) Quinn. She passed away on Sunday, Jan. 13, in Vacaville, California.
Pat grew up on her father's farm in Bancroft, Iowa. She graduated from St. John's Catholic High School in Bancroft, in 1947, and then attended St. Catherine (St. Kate's) in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing. She soon began working at St. Joseph's Hospital as a Registered Nurse. Pat then joined the
United States Air Force
and achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. She served in Maxwell / Gunther Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama and then at the Air Base at Chateroux, France, where she met Melvin Eugene Bowen. The two were married on April 3, 1959 by the mayor of Chateroux, and then on April 4, 1959, by the Catholic Church. They soon moved back to The States where they were both stationed at John Connally Air Force Base near Waco, Texas.
After beginning their family, Mel was sent to Viet Nam and Pat raised the children. After Mel's return, they were stationed at Mather AFB in Sacramento, then three years in Ankara, Turkey, then finally retiring at Travis AFB in 1971.
Pat was a Registered Nurse at the little 22-bed Fairfield Hospital, where she was also Director of Nurses. After its closure, she worked at Intercommunity, Martinez VA, Broadway, Vallejo General, and eventually retired from Sutter Hospital in Vallejo.
Pat was an avid baseball fan, particularly the Oakland A's, and for years she enjoyed season tickets with them. She was thrilled to get the MLB channel and soon was enjoying games from many other teams.
She was active in her Catholic faith, attending daily Mass, and serving as a Lay Carmelite. For years she assisted many people through the Society of St. Vincent De Paul. She was frugal in her approach to finance and spending, and always willing to help those less fortunate than her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mel in April, 1995, and sister, Maureen in 1977. She is survived by sons, William (Debbi) Bowen, Eugene Bowen, Robert (Camille) Bowen; daughter, Mary Lou Bowen; grandchildren, Heather (Andy) Hanks, Rebecca (David) Sauder, Cody Bowen, and Jacob Bowen, and great-grandchildren, Desmond Hanks, Suzie Hanks, and Aubrey Sauder. Also surviving is her sister, Jeanne Higley of Banning, and nephews, Bill (Geri) Higley and Rick Higley, and niece, Mary Pat (Tim) Buhl, and many Quinn and Lattimer cousins.
