Raymond Arnold Meinel, age 71, of Lodi, passed away at home on Sept. 13, from lung cancer. He was born March 13, 1942 in Grand Haven, MI, to Arnold and Clara (Snyder) Meinel.
He graduated from Grand Haven High School and joined the Navy. Ray served as a missle man aboard a nuclear submarine. He loved the Navy, but returned to civilian life and went to work for PG&E as a gas serviceman and dispatcher. He retired 30 years later.
Ray was a lifetime member of the VFW in Grand Haven, MI, the Moose Club, and the SIRS Organization of California. He had many interests; singing karaoke was a favorite.
He leaves behind his special friend, Rose Hayles; son, Raymond Jr.; three grandchildren, Nina, Brian, and Stevie Ray; several great-grandchildren; his sister, Arlene (Mike) Maxfield; niece, Lori (Dan) Volovlek; great-nephews, Vince and Anthony Volovlek, all of Grand Haven, MI, as well as several stepchildren and their families in California and Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Clara Meinel; wife, Janice Meinel; daughter, Linda McLaughlin; and brother, Ronnie Meinel.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Jan. 11, 2014, at the Casa De Lodi Clubhouse, 812 E. Turner Road, Lodi.
