1934 - 2017 Notice Condolences
Annie Joyce Staten Notice
May 30, 1934 - Oct. 29, 2017 Vallejo Annie Joyce Staten departed our world on Oct. 29, in Vallejo. She was born on May 30, 1934 in Matherville, (now Shubuta) MS to the late Johnnie and Ida Mae Johnson. She was the third of 10 children. Annie united in holy matrimony to Eddie Lee Staten on March 31, 1951. Eddie soon joined the USAF and in 1959 moved the family to Vallejo, since he was stationed at Travis AFB. They enjoyed 63 years together before Eddie's death in 2014. Annie worked as a cook for various restaurants in Vallejo. Many customers raved about her cooking and she always prepared their food as they wished. To many, Annie was known as the pie lady. People loved her sweet potato, apple and pecan pies. She looked forward to the holidays when her pies were in high demand. Even as arthritis slowed her down, she prepared her pies for others. Annie was a member of Kyles Temple AME Zion Church for over 55 years. She loved wearing her hats to church services. Her hats ranged from simple to large and fancy. Annie is survived by her children, Dorothey (Henry) Staten Watson, Mesa, AZ, Kim (Otis) Staten Varner, Fairfield, Keith Staten, Sacramento, and Darren (Kari) Staten, Vancouver, British Columbia; grandchildren, Aaron (Kim) King, Chandler, AZ, Jared King, Chandler, AZ, Danielle Varner, Sacramento, and Jordan Varner, Fairfield; great grandchildren, Anthony, Madison, Felicity and Joslyn, Chandler, AZ. She is also survived by her sister, Ida Mae Jones, New York; brothers, O.B. (Annie) Johnson, Hialeah, FL, Willie (Pinkey) Earl Johnson and Robert (Liz) Earl Johnson, Carol City, FL, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters, Johnnie Mae Horne, Shirley Staten, Arjesta Richardson, Clonie B. Ransom and Eddie Burton. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 3 to 7 p.m. Celebration of life service will be on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., both at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W. Texas St., Fairfield. Burial will be private. Our family would like to thank everyone for their warm words, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. A special thanks to Sojourn Hospice Care and Precision Home Care for their support during Annie's time of need. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Kyles Temple AME Zion Church, 912 Florida St., Vallejo, CA 94590.
