Bienvenido Fojas Bunyi, Jr., fondly known as "Ben" or "Bennett" was called home to be with our Lord on June 24. Bennett was born on Feb. 17, 1949 in Manila, Philippines to Bienvenido Figueroa Bunyi, Sr. (deceased) and Gorgonia Fojas. On June 22, 1975, Bennett married his heart and love, Evelyn Mediran, and together they had five children. They raised their family in Vallejo, and in 2010, they moved to Sacramento.
Bennett was God-loving and lived life to the fullest. He was kind, generous and enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. His favorite past-times included playing golf, spending time with his granddogs and enjoying time at the shooting range. He was also a classic car enthusiast and a practical jokester. He was a member of the Northgate Golf Club and was raised at Crocker Lodge No. 212 of Free and Accepted Masons in Daly City, CA.
He is survived by his mother; wife; children, Joyce (Christian) Caparas, Eileen, Lynette and Jeffrey; brothers, Felix (Aida), Ruben (Suzette), Mario (Terri); sister, Ellen (Luis) Teopengco; father-in-law, Florentino Mediran; sister-in-law, Arlene (Jerry) Santamaria; nephews, nieces, relatives and countless number of friends. He is predeceased by daughter, Angelica.
He was educated in the Philippines at San Beda College and received a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Santo Tomas in 1974. His accomplishments during his 35+ year career in Mechanical and Structural Engineering and Design included projects for BART, Shell Refinery, FastTrak, Arco Gas Stations, Glenwood Canyon Tunnel in Colorado and San Francisco Intl. Airport People Mover and Runways. He retired from the PG&E Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in San Luis Obispo, CA.
Bennett passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in Sacramento. The family would like to thank the staff of Kaiser Permanente, Mercy Medical Group and Hospital and the Santamaria Family for their love and care.
Visitation will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 6 and 7, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a Vigil at 7 p.m., on Sunday at Skyview Funeral Chapel, 200 Rollingwood Drive, Vallejo. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 8, at 11 a.m., at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 3450 Tennessee St., Vallejo, followed by interment at All Soul's Catholic Cemetery at 550 Glen Cove Pkwy., Vallejo.
