He was raised in Vallejo, and graduated from Vallejo High where he was active in track. He finished a sheet metal apprenticeship at Mare Island and began his life long career for the Federal Government. He was a crane inspector, Supervisory Contract P&E and a Senior General Foreman for Work Center 29. Jim married Maureen Roddy in 1963 and they had three children, Carrie, Jimmy, and Christine.
