June 13, 1935 - Jan. 6, 2018 Vallejo Jean Sylvia Terrell, 82, passed away Jan. 6, with her family by her side. She was born on June 13, 1935 in New Orleans, LA, to the union of Henry Dixon and Agnes Louise Dixon. In 1943, during the Great Migration, her parents moved the family to Vallejo to obtain better career and economic opportunities. Jean was married to Spess Wisemon Terrell, Jr., and to their union were born nine children. Jean was an exceptional wife, and phenomenal mother. She had a deep love for her husband and children; they were at the heart of her life. She was a caring sister who was always there for her family. She also shared her love, wisdom and compassion with her nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In the later 1960's, Jean became an active member in the Vallejo Unified School District PTA (18th District). Jean was nominated and elected as the Vallejo Unified School District's 18th District PTA President. Jean attended Napa College and completed an Associate of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education. She also earned certificates that helped advance her career and meet the needs of her young students. Jean was employed in the Vallejo Unified School District for over 40 years. She held several jobs in education that focused on students' success. In 2005, she retired as a Vallejo School District Pre-School Teacher. Jean was known for her creativity, positive relationships with parents and excellent work with students. She was a great teacher, who loved all children. Jean is survived by her husband, children, sisters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. She was preceded by her father, Henry Dixon; stepfather, Willis Bonds; sister, Delores, and mother, Agnes Bonds. The funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 13 at 11:30 a.m., at Fairfield Funeral Home, 1750 Pennsylvania Ave., Fairfield. Interment is private.
