Feb. 14, 1940 - March 18, 2006

Elder Jerry J. Bell, 66, passed away Saturday at Summit Medical Center in Oakland, after a long illness. Born in New Orleans, LA, Elder Bell resided in the Bay Area for a significant portion of his early life before relocating to Los Angeles, where he lived from 1970 to 2005, after which, in July, 2006, he returned to Bay area.

During the course of his life, Elder Bell worked as a self-employed interior-exterior painter and served as the Pastor and founder of New Zion Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles, until his illness progressed.

Elder Bell has a host of survivors which include his daughter, Vonterance Bell, grandson, Themba Nelson, three brothers, Mervin, Theodore and Michael Bell, two sisters, Gaynell Bracy and Diane Bell, two in-laws, Merle Bracy and Joyce Bell, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Bell, Sr. and Dorothy Edwards Bell, brother John, Jr., sister, Cheryl Ann Bell, and brother, Raymond Bell, respectively.

A viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Cooley and Riolo Mortuary 505 Couch St., Vallejo, CA. 94590. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2006 at Old Path COGIC, 500 Arkansas St., Vallejo, CA 94590. Burial at All Souls Catholic Cemetery, 550 Glen Cove Road, Vallejo, CA 94591.
