Sept. 3, 1923 - July 24, 2018 Vallejo Daughter of Warren and Marion Armstrong. Mary Jane was born in Oakland, and later moved to Vallejo. During her early years, she belonged to the Rainbow Organization, loved to play golf, and worked for her dad as a Bookkeeper at Armstrong Pacific Roofing. She married Lawrence Blanchard in 1944 and had two children, Steven Michael Blanchard and Warren Woodruff (Woody) Blanchard. Mary Jane loved life and loved her church. She was a member of Church of the Ascension for over 60 years, volunteering for Altar Guild, Choir, and other activities throughout the years. Mom was a member of the Vallejo Symphony and truly loved classical and jazz music. She was an avid bridge player. Mary Jane was also a member of PEO International Organization a philanthropic group focused on motivating women to achieve their highest goals through grants and scholarships. In 1997, Mary Jane lost the love of her life, her husband, Larry Blanchard, who was laid to rest in Church of the Ascension's Memorial Garden. In 2008, Mary Jane, moved to Brookdale Retirement Living where she continued to live independently. She was always very helpful to her friends and always had a smile and kind word for almost everyone she met. She had a zest for living that carried her through her 94 years. On July 16, Mary Jane was diagnosed with sepsis and kidney failure, which led to her passing. She is survived by her two sons, Steven Blanchard and Warren Blanchard; her three grandchildren, Ethan Blanchard, Melissa Blanchard, and Sarah (Blanchard) Hanna, and her two great grandchildren, Aiden and Adelyn Hanna. Her celebration of life will be at Church of the Ascension, 2420 Tuolumne St., Vallejo on Friday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, it was Mary Jane's wishes that donations be made to Church of the Ascension's Endowment Fund.
