"Mel" Evangelista, 88 of American Canyon, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Sept. 30.
Born in San Antonio, Zambales Philippines. He joined the US Navy with his brother Marcelino, retiring in 1964. He retired from Civil Service work at Travis Air Force Base.
He enjoyed fishing, golf and ballroom dancing. He was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer, Norcal San Antonian, FARUSAFA, and War Veterans, their families and friends.
Mel is survived by his son, Rene; sister, Virginia; niece, Geraldine, and longtime companion, Diony.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marcelino; and his loving wife, Victoria.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m., to 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, and Friday, Oct. 12, at Colonial Chapels. Vigil will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12, at Colonial Chapels. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, Oct. 13, noon at St. Vincent Ferrer. Burial to follow at All Souls.
Family asks that donations be made to Sutter Care at Home in the name of Melecio A. Evangelista. Arrangements under the direction of Colonial Chapels.
