1930 - 2018 Notice Condolences
Msgt. Raymond A. Hagler (Ret) Sept. 26, 1930 - Aug. 16, 2018 Vacaville Raymond Arden Hagler, age 87, died Aug. 16, in Vacaville, after a long illness. Raymond served 22 years in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War, the Vietnam War and other conflicts where he earned several medals to include: Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star; Presidential Unit Citation; Korean Presidential Unit Citation; United Nations Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Vietnamese Campaign Service Medal; Vietnamese Service Medal with 3 Stars and National Defense Service Medal. Raymond retired in 1969 as a Master Sergeant. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the US Marine Corps never left him, as his friends and family will attest. Raymond grew up in Buena Vista, GA the second of four sons of Edward and Lily Mae Roberts. At 17, Raymond joined the US Marine Corps and traveled throughout the world. In October 1969, Raymond retired from the Marine Corps and worked at Contra Costa Security (Richmond), AGE (Vallejo), Red & White Fleet/Crowley Maritime Corporation (San Francisco) and DRMO/Mare Island Naval Shipyard (Vallejo). Raymond was an active lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Post 1123 in Vallejo, for 26 years, where he devoted the majority of his free time in retirement to this post. He held several different positions with the VFW to include Post Commander (1994-1996) and Quartermaster (1997-1999). Raymond was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) and Marine Corps League. Raymond was a brave and loyal Marine, as well as a patient and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Adelaida and three children, Catherine Hagler, Vacaville, Gary (Jean) Hagler, Harlingen, TX and Jackie (Kipper) Russell, Harlingen, TX. He also leaves behind four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving him, Calvin (Shirley) Hagler, Vallejo, Edward Hagler, Orlando, FL and Thomas (Mary Ann) Hagler, Gainesville, FL. A memorial service will be held at the Vallejo Veterans Memorial Building located at 420 Admiral Callaghan Ln., in Vallejo, on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 10 a.m. Reception to follow.
