Sandra Lee Walker passed away Sunday, September 19, 2010 at her home in Vallejo, California where she had resided for the past 55 years. She was born in Albany, California on January 8, 1938 and moved to Vallejo in 1944. She was a member of the Vallejo High Class of 1955.
Sandy was very involved in the life of her family, always participating in school and social events with her children and grandchildren. She loved to travel, shop, and spend time with the wonderful children and staff at Widenmann School.
Throughout her life, she held numerous community positions with organizations such as Girl Scouts of America and Lions Club. She volunteered at many of the elementary schools in Vallejo, was an active member of the Class of 1955 Reunion Committee, and was deeply involved with Relay for Life. Sandy was the 2010 recipient of the Sharon Miller Inspirational Award which was presented to her during this year's Relay for Life event recognizing her contributions in support of Relay for Life over the past 9 years. She was also given a 2010-2011 honorary membership to the Lions Club. Sandy was very active in the community and belonged to Community Presbyterian Church.
Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son Dale; sister Barbara Birdsall, and parents, Leona and Lou Alexander. She is survived by her sister, Laura (Burnette) Bohrer; daughters Audrey (Stuart) Slater and Kimberly (Dwayne) Penning both of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and son, Kevin (Chris) Walker of Vallejo. In addition, she leaves behind her granddaughters, Christa, Stephanie (Venus) and Jennifer Penning and grandson Robert Walker along with her great-grandchildren, Shane and Cyrus. She also leaves behind many other loving family members, longtime friends and acquaintances. Sandy was well known in the City of Vallejo and will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 beginning at 2 p.m. at Colonial Chapels, 1000 Redwood Street, Vallejo followed by a celebration of her life at the Courtyard Marriott, 1000 Fairgrounds Drive, Vallejo.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to your favorite charity in memory of Sandy.

My hearfelt sympathy goes out to Sandy's family. She and I were really good friends when we worked together at Widemann. She was a wonderful person with a very caring heart and she did so love her job and those children she worked with. She will be greatly missed.
