Elizabeth McGee (McGee) was born to the family of the late Wesley Ellis and Minnie Belle (Berry) McGee in Northport, Alabama on Feb. 10, 1920, where she received her education. She was baptized at Porter St. Paul CME in Northport, Alabama and she was a member until she moved to Benicia, reuniting with her husband, James O. McGee, stationed at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Since 1943, both had been members of Kyles Temple AME Zion in Vallejo. Elizabeth was united in holy matrimony with her childhood sweetheart, James (Jim) O. McGee on Oct. 14,1942. At age 50, she fulfilled her lifelong dream to become a nurse. She worked as a LVN at Broadway Hospital in Vallejo and Doctors Hospital in Pinole for over 25 years. When she retired at age 76, she began volunteering at Kaiser Hospital. Elizabeth loved children; her passion was to help others. As a Solano County foster parent she cared for several children. After a trip to Dallas, Texas, to visit her first grandson, she discovered she enjoyed flying. She visited many countries and went on many cruises. Elizabeth also loved to attend Tuscaloosa Reunion Clubs' town reunions held in different states, and every fifth year in Tuscaloosa. She is preceded in death by her husband, James O. McGee; her parents, Wesley Ellis McGee and Minnie McGee (Berry); four brothers, Walter McGee, James M. McGee, Ellis McGee, Samuel McGee; one sister, Ester Montgomery; a great-grandson, James C. L. Rockwood; many family and friends, including, Juanita Williams, Gertie McGee, Fred and Pansy Moore, and Johnnie, Sr. and Ruth Barber. Cherishing the beautiful and wonderful memory of her love and devotion are two daughters, Doris Anne McGee-Lundy, Marcia Ogbolu McGee; one grandson, Stephen O. Ogbolu; three granddaughters, Anne Elizabeth Lundy, Avril Dawn Rockwood, Mamie O. Johnson; 15 great grandchildren, Rocky Picar, Alia Lundy, Christiana Lundy Sturgis, William Johnson, Julia Johnson, Rachel Johnson, Jordon Johnson, Zandria Rockwood, Michael Johnson, Stephen Ogbolu, Jr., Jermiah Ogbolu, Sariah Ogbolu, Jaelyn Lee and Fiona Rockwood; one great-great grandson, Drake Picar; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends, including Annie Ruth Wilson and caregivers, David Lloyd McGee, and Elizabeth McGee Nash.
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 31 at 4 p.m., with a memorial service at 6:30 p.m., at Skyview Memorial Lawn, 200 Rollingwood Drive, Vallejo. Arrangements under the direction and care of Skyview Memorial Lawn.
