Lorraine Prouty Ricker Notice
Aug. 7, 1920 March 14, 2014

Lorraine Ricker, 93, passed into the arms of God with her beloved family by her side. Her family emigrated from Azore Islands, Portugal in the 1800s. They settled in Oakland, where Lorraine was born, to Mary Moniz and Manuel Gouveia. Lorraine married her sweetheart, Richard Prouty and they started their family. They moved to Vallejo in 1954. In 1971 she married Robert Ricker and they moved to American Canyon. Lorraine's first job was that of "Soda Jerk" at UC Berkeley's campus. She continued in food service, being employed at VeRays, Sears Roebuck, Senior Retirement Home, JJ Newberry's, Vallejo School District and retired from the VA Hospital in Yountville, but her favorite job was raising her three daughters. She is most remembered for her love of dancing and telling her life story as everyone listened intently.

She is preceded in death by her first husband of 32 years, Richard Prouty; her two month old son, Richard Prouty Jr.; brother, Raymond Gouveia; and sister, Cecilia Zubiate.

Lorraine leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 42 years, Robert Harmon Ricker of American Canyon; daughters, Patricia (Steve) Ercole of Vallejo, Carol (Tony) Spinelli of South Lake Tahoe, Lana (John Oberg) Prouty of Petaluma, Ruby (Juan) Garcia of American Canyon, Janey (John) Bearce of American Canyon, and Yvonne Ricker of American Canyon; sons, Michael (Stephanie) Ricker of Maine, Timmy (Susan) Ricker of Utah and Johnny Ricker of American Canyon; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, with one due in Sept.; her brother, Eddy Gouveia of Concord; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m., at All Souls Catholic Cemetery, 550 Glen Cove Rd. in Vallejo. Please bring your stories and memories.

Reception to follow at the Ercole home.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Joseph Robinow for his years of service to our mom, the ER at Kaiser Hospital, the Fire Department, Para Medics in American Canyon and mom's two care providers, Toni McClinton and Lucy Valdez.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home.
