Rennie C. Amante, 75, passed away suddenly Monday in a local hospital following a battle with myelodysplastic cancer. He was born in the Philippines, moved to Vietnam in 1965, moved to America in 1970 and to Benicia in 1977. Rennie was a graduate of Mapua Institute of Technology in the Philippines and worked as an Electrical Engineer for over 45 years, many of those years with Bechtel and Fluor Corporations.
Rennie was a member of the Freemasons, Sublime Benicia Lodge No. 5 F. & A.M., St. Dominic's Church and the Fil-Am Society of Benicia. He enjoyed just being around his family as well as, traveling, cruising, playing golf and ballroom dancing.
Rennie is the fourth of nine children. Rennie is survived by his wife, Elsa; children, Renel (Kathe) Amante and Rea Amante (David) Ducay; brother, Jessie Amante; sisters, Evelyn Duero and Heather Navarro; grandchildren Jordan and Jessica Ducay and Tiana, Julyana, Alyssa and Isabella Amante; and his grand dog Louie.
Vigil service will be held 7 p.m., Thursday at Passalacqua Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m., Friday at St. Dominic's Church followed by burial in All Souls Cemetery.
