Doris Delma Amburn, 88, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, at her home in Lodi, CA. She was born on June 22, 1925 in Lodi, CA to Adam and Marie (Schmidt) Schmierer.

Doris grew up in the Lodi area where she attended Houston School and graduated from Lodi High School in 1943. She was active in A Cappella Choir where she met her future husband, Gene Amburn. After high school she worked as a bookkeeper for Cherokee Vineyard Association and then as an office girl at a local radio station. She later worked as a bilingual language tester for Vallejo School District where she retired after 20 years.

Doris married Gene Amburn in 1945 at the Army Air Field Chapel in Tonopah, NV. They made their home in Lodi, but relocated to Vallejo soon after. Doris and Gene were married for 56 years until his passing in 2002.

Doris enjoyed music and was a gifted pianist. She started as an accompanist with the Woodbridge Elementary School Band and played in many recitals at the Lodi Women's Club House. In the early '40s, she was the organist and piano accompanist at the Salem Evangelical Church. Later in life she found great joy playing piano for the residents of Chancellor Place in Lodi, where she has resided since 2011.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Marie Schmierer; brothers, Arthur, Clarence, Ernest, Lawrence, Melvin; sisters, Francis, and Gladys Peterson, and her husband, Gene Amburn.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Patrick) Eggers; brother, Gordon (Esther) Schmierer Sr.; and her loving nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.

A memorial service will be at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont, Lodi, CA., at 10 a.m., on May 20. Final internment will be at Cherokee Memorial Park.
