Feb. 3, 1926 - June 5, 2014

Norma A. Sousa passed away peacefully Thursday at her home in Benicia. She was born in San Francisco, raised in Healdsburg, graduated from Healdsburg High School and attended nursing school. She moved to Vallejo where she met her husband, Al Sousa. They moved to Benicia in 1954. Norma was a Registered Nurse for almost 45 years beginning at the old Vallejo General Hospital on Tennessee Street and later at Family Doctor Medical Group on Broadway in Vallejo. She rarely, if ever, missed a day of work in all of those years. In addition to working full time and raising a family, Norma helped care for several family members and friends in the community. After retiring, she was a volunteer at Sutter Solano Medical Center.

Norma was a long time member of St. Dominic's Church and an active volunteer in the Catholic Social Service organization. Over the years, she belonged to several bridge groups in Benicia and Vallejo, playing for the final time last week.

She is survived by her son, Rick (JaLynne) Sousa and her daughter, Terrie (Paul) Corkrean; sister, Olga Sanchietti; brother-in-law, Ernie Sousa; sister-in-law, Carmel (Rudy) Tapiro; grandchildren, Mathew and Katie Burns and Jason Wright, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al in 2000.

In the past few years, Norma was very appreciative of her many friends who took her to church, luncheons, and bridge. The family would like to say a special thank you to Tess and Mel, for their loving care and companionship.

Vigil services will be held 7 p.m., Thursday at Passalacqua Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m., Friday at St. Dominic's Church. Burial will be private. Visitation will be at the mortuary after 3 p.m., Thursday. The family prefers donations to St. Dominic's School, Catholic Social Service or St. Jude's Research Hospital.
