Lynn Marie Martin, 54, passed away on Feb. 23 at her home in San Pablo. Lynn was born in Vallejo on Aug. 22, 1960 to Troy and Shirley (Ross) Martin. She grew up in Vallejo and graduated from Vallejo High School in 1978. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from San Francisco State University in 1983 and received her Master's Degree in Public Health Education from John Hopkins University in 1993. Before returning to the Bay Area, Lynn worked for many years in Prineville, OR as the Director of a nonprofit medical center in that area. She was instrumental in getting two more clinics built in nearby towns and received a commendation from the county for her outstanding leadership on these projects. She was currently employed as the Executive Director for the Early Childhood Mental Health Agency for Contra Costa County. She was a faithful member of the El Portal Church of Christ in Richmond.

Lynn had a most adventuresome spirit and was a worldwide traveler. In addition to all her private travels, she was an exchange student to Turkey in 1978, and a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco from 1987 to 1991. She enjoyed mountain climbing (reaching the base camp of Mt. Everest two years ago); SCUBA diving; skiing; and running (she completed three marathons).

She is survived by her parents, Troy and Shirley Martin of Vallejo; her sister, Terri Martin-Goeschel (Vern Goeschel) of Mariposa, CA; close cousins, Kenneth Martin (Marla) of Billings, MT, and Kevin Martin (Julia) of Florence, SC; her uncles, Richard Barr (Karan), Bert Barr (Rose), and Norman Larsen (Marybeth), and many other cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, at the Church of Christ, 1109 Lassen St., Vallejo. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Early Childhood Mental Health Program, 4101 MacDonald Ave., Richmond, CA 94805. Arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Chapels.

On this anniversary date, I remember a kind, caring. and a very good friend. She gave a lot of herself to help the less fortunate of Gods people. I miss her very much, but know she is in a better place and look forward to seeing her again.
To her parents, what a contribution you gave to this world through your loving daughter, Lynn. She would always talk fondly of you her parents and her sister Terri.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you on this date and through out the year.

I am so very sad to hear this news which I randomly stumbled upon. Lynne was my sorority sister at sfsu and a dear friend who always made me laugh and challenged me to enjoy life with her adventurous spirit. To her family I send my deepest condolences and much love for your beautiful girl. And gratitude for having such a wonderful friend.

My husband and I are very saddened to hear of Lynn's passing. We just received word today. We both worked with her at NWHS and I later worked for her in the Bend Clinic. She was one of the most caring and kind persons you would ever meet. She loved to serve the less fortunate, she had a heart of gold. We will miss her, but are better people for knowing Lynn. To you, her family, our thoughts and prayers go out to you. God has welcomed a jewel into Heaven. We will miss her, but look forward to seeing her in Heaven.

Lynn touched my heart with her kind heart and strong spirit. She truly cared about my family and loved to talk with my grand daughter Mia. Lynn is with the Lord now but she will forever remain in our hearts.

All of us in the non-profit world who provide special care and support for people, will truly miss Lynn as an exceptional human being and leader. I have only known her for the past two years both as a colleague and good friends. A very principled individual being with a sweet smile and voice.

God truly blessed Lynn.
