Allan P. Rillera was born in San Francisco in 1930, joined the Army during the Korean War, returned to UC Berkeley for an Engineering degree, and retired from Mare Island Naval Shipyard after 35 years as a Mechanical Engineer working on Nuclear Submarines. He was a devoted family man to his wife of 59 years, Eling Llacuna Rillera; children: Noreen Constantino (Cesar), Tony (Geri), Ed (Carmen)and Kevin Rillera; grandchildren, Eric, Lisa and Ryan Constantino, Tony Cabiles, Jeffrey, Jason, Joey and Staci Rillera, Jaselle Aqa, Serena Bustamante, Sonny Navarrette, Vincent Rillera and Frankie Chavarria, and 13 great-grandchildren. He was a man of endless energy, an avid tennis player, accomplished pianist, outdoorsman, a world traveler, even running the Bay to Breakers for the first time at age 60. He loved fixing cars, especially his 36 Ford convertible, and building or repairing all manner of household projects. He died Aug. 29, from injuries from a fall doing what he liked best, fixing things-trying to build a new gazebo in his back yard. His family no longer needs to feel guilty about misplacing or not returning his tools.
