He was affectionately known by his family as "Geg-Geg" and his friends as "Greg". He lived 78 wonderful years. He was born in Malasiqui, Pangasinan, Philippines and lived in Vallejo since the early 60's. He is survived by his wife, Julita Palaganas Caragan; their son, Brandon; and Greg's adult children, son, Alan, his wife, Jacqueline, their sons, Jaden, Kalen, and Nolan; his daughter, Susan, her husband Justin, their son Xavier; his son, Ryan, his wife Allison, and their children, Rayne and Aidan; and his brother, Pedro "Tony" Caragan, his family; dozens of nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren that adored him.
Greg was a US Merchant Marine and sailed with the Military Sea Transportation Service, under command of the US Navy. He supplied the troops with ammunition and supplies during the Vietnam War. He was also sailor on the Golden Bear and worked in the restaurant industry in Napa and San Francisco. He planted, pruned, and harvested the orchards of Suisun and Stockton. He retired from the Vallejo City Unified School District, and his favorite assignment was serving the Vallejo Apache Athletic and Arts program as their Custodian. He was a member of the Filipino-American Progressive Organization, Sekder Day Pangasinan, and the Cursillo movement. He was also a greeter and usher at St Basil's Catholic Church and is a Knight of Columbus.
The Caragan family invites you to join them in a celebration of his life at, The USA World Classics Event Center,
1525 Sonoma Blvd., Vallejo, CA 94590. Services will be on Thursday, Jan. 3, and Jan. 4, at the event center, which will be open for viewing from noon to 9 p.m., with memorial services starting at 6 p.m., each night.
The funeral will begin at 11 a.m., on Jan 5, at St Basils Church, 1230 Nebraska St., Vallejo, CA 94590, followed by burial at, All Souls Cemetery, 550 Glen Cove Pkwy., (North of 780), Vallejo, CA 94590.
