Resident of Vallejo.
Vincent H. Poettgen died peacefully Jan. 16, at the age of 88. He was born in East St. Louis IL, the eldest child of Fred and Mary Ruth Poettgen. Vince attended Central Catholic High School in East St. Louis and Mundelein Seminary College, Mundelein IL, where he received a BA in philosophy in 1945. He married Mary Ann Lach in 1948 and immediately entered the Army. Three months after his discharge in 1951, he began his employment (sales and marketing) with Kaiser Aluminum in Chicago IL.
In the summer of 1959, the company transferred Vince to its newly-completed head-quarters in Oakland, CA. Vince, Mary and their three children settled in Orinda, CA, where Vince became active as a liturgist, choir director and musician in the Santa Maria Catholic Church parish and the diocesan Cursillo program.
Vince retired in 1982, and three years later he and Mary moved to Vallejo, CA, where he enjoyed golfing, writing, acting in local theater and leading the "Just for Fun" senior citizens' band. After Mary's death in 1995, Vince was blessed to receive the love of Katherine Shanahan whom he married in 1996.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; a sister, and his first wife, Mary.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Lou (Tom) Judge; brother, Eugene (Jackie); his wife, Katherine; daughter, Patricia (Manuel) Ventura; sons, Vincent J. and Gregory (Vivian); granddaughters, Liliana Ventura Mitchell (Keith) and Valerie Poettgen; six stepchildren; 11 step-grandchildren, and numerous extended family.
He will be remembered for his deep faith and love of the Lord and his family.
The visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 21 from 1 to 9 p.m., with the vigil at 7 p.m., at Colonial Chapels, 1000 Redwood St., Vallejo CA. The funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m., at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 3450 Tennessee St., Vallejo CA.
