Rodney W. Ribeiro, 67, passed away suddenly Saturday at his home in Benicia. He was born in Vallejo but lived his entire life in Benicia.  
Rod was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge Rod worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for over 30 years. He started in the sheet metal shop, spent some time with the Police Force before becoming a firefighter. He retired as Fire Chief in 1996. For the past 10 years, Rod has been the caretaker at St. Dominic's Cemetery in Benicia. 
He was a member of St. Dominic's Church. He loved hunting and fishing, and was able to fix most anything. He enjoyed carpentry and auto repair, and was active with Benicia Little League years ago. 
Rod is survived by Linda, his wife of 50 years; daughter, Lisa Ribeiro; son, Rodney W. Ribeiro Jr.; sister, Ronda Ribeiro; brother, Rick Ribeiro and grandchildren, Amber, Thomas, Crysta, Taylor, Travis and Destiny Ribeiro. 
A Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m., Friday, at St. Dominic's Church, 475 East I St., Benicia. Arrangements are under the direction of Passalacqua Funeral Chapel, Benicia. Please visit the online tribute at
