Cheryle Irene Freitas Notice
Sept. 8, 1959 - March 7, 2013
The Sunshine of our lives, Cheryle Irene Freitas passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 7, after a fierce three year battle with an extremely rare appendix cancer at age 53.
Cheryle was born Sept. 8 ,1959 to Jack and Denise Collins. She grew up in Albany, CA and graduated from Albany High in 1978. At age 20, she started working at Lucky Stores in Pinole Valley, and over the next 33 years worked at several Luckys in the area, spending the last 20 years at the Pinole store at the Pinole Vista Center. She worked in various positions but fell in love with her last position in the floral department. In 1987 she was married to the love of her life, Scott Freitas in Crockett, CA, and moved to Vallejo.
Cheryle was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. Her smile was known to light up a room and she always had something kind to say to anyone she met. She loved weekend trips to the ocean and dreamed of retirement in an ocean-front cottage with an IKEA kitchen.
She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years Scott; her two daughters, Shelby and Devanie; her loving sister, Jolynn Gonsalves and her husband Chris. Along with her immediate family, she also leaves behind her mother, Denise Collins and her entire Texas family, including her Auntie Nancy and Uncle Mike Rembert.
The family would like to thank all her doctors, oncologist Dr. Lesley Martin and surgeon, Dr. Bebak Edraki, for not only providing excellent care but for always helping to provide hope and peace of mind during her long journey.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 17, at the Benicia Arsenal Clocktower at 1189 Washington St., Benicia from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions are preferred to Caringbridge.com the online website that helped us keep everyone informed during Cheryle's battle. Make a "tribute" donation in the name of cherylefreitas.
