Jack was born on July 4, 1921 and raised in Los Angeles, CA.
At the age of 17, Jack joined the U.S. Navy in 1938 lying about his age and weight; he had to eat a bunch of bananas to make the weight limit. He served on the U.S.S. Minneapolis and the U.S.S. Warrick. He is a Pearl Harbor survivor and a former POW.
October 27, 1943 (Navy Day), he married the love of his life Otillia ("Tillie") Hubig. They had three children, each two years apart, Karen, Jack Jr. and Richard.
After discharge from the Navy, and various small jobs, Jack moved to Vallejo in 1951 and went to work for Mare Island Naval Shipyard, where he worked for 27 years as a Boiler Maker, retiring in 1973 at the age of 52.
Jack is a 65 year member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Past Commander of the V.F.W., Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star in Crockett, a former member of the Elks and Moose, a Good Samaritan, and was a Ben Ali Shriners in the Clown Club for many years, traveling to childrens hospitals as a clown and making balloon animals for the children was a favorite activity.
Jack and his wife Tillie loved to travel, going to such places as the Bahamas, Panama Canal, Alaska, Hawaii, Tahiti, New York, Oregon, Texas, and Arkansas. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing blackjack at the casinos. Jack and Tillie also square danced for many years with various clubs, traveling all over California and Nevada.
After a long battle with asbestosis and associated illnesses, Jack passed away on July 10, at Kaiser Hospital, after celebrating his 92 birthday with friends and family.
Jack is survived by his wife, Tillie of 69 years; daughter, Karen; sons, Jack Jr. and Richard; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Jack leaves behind many friends, and was loved by many. He will be sorely missed.
Memorial services for Jack will be held at the Springbrook Masonic Temple located at 101 Temple Way, Vallejo on Saturday, July 20, at 1 p.m. All those that knew and loved him are invited to attend.
