Anthony "Tony" Puleo passed on Aug. 27 after a brief illness at the age of 89.
Tony was born in 1924 to Teresa and Domenic Puleio in Seminara-Reggio Calabria Italy. He came to America with his family in June of 1933 where the spelling of his last name was changed at Ellis Island.
He was married for 63 years to Dolores "Dodie" who preceded him in death in 2012.
Known around town as "Tony the Tailor" he owned and operated a custom tailor and men's clothing store for over 50 years. Many of Vallejo's finest dressed gentlemen owned custom suits hand-made by this master tailor.
Tony has been active with many organizations including the Elks Lodge, Sons of Italy, Lions Club and the 20-30 Club. He was a member of the Vallejo Bocce League, playing on a team with his sons for many years. He served as a past board member with GVRD and the Blue Rock Springs Golf Club. He enjoyed being part of the Scotty's Corner Crew at Scotty's Restaurant.
Tony and Dodie loved to travel but had some of their best times with family and friends at Pine Grove on Cobb Mountain.
He is survived by his four sons, Mark, Sandy (Rhonda), Steve (Louise) and John; grandchildren include Brad, Sara, Jennifer, Lily, Ben, Alex, Ricky, Diana, Mikk and Eric. He also had four great grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held at Twin Chapels Mortuary on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. A Catholic Mass will be held at St. Basil's Church on Friday, Sept. 6 at 12 Noon.
