Milford H. "Mel" Thurin, Jr., 87, passed away Sunday at Emeritus in Vacaville following a long illness.
Mel was born to Milford and Anna Thurin on June 20, 1926 in Illinois. He graduated from St. Vincent's High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII. He worked as an Engineer with Kaiser Permanente Medical Center for 25 years, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed spending time with his family, water sports, traveling in his motor home, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathleen Smith, Debrah Whetstone, Barbara (Mac) Millar, Christine (David) Cattaneo and Michelle (Sean) Jimenez; son, Michael; sister, Marjorie Walsh; brother, Donald (Liz); 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his loving and faithful companion, Michiko Endow.
Visitation will be held 4 to 9 p.m., with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 at St. Basil's Catholic Church, 1230 Nebraska St., Vallejo. Inurnment will be private at St. Vincent's Catholic Cemetery, Vallejo.
