James Lee Walker, a WWII, Korean, and Vietnam War Veteran as well as a 40 year resident of Vallejo, died Sunday, Dec. 8, in Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Vallejo surrounded by his loving family. James was born on Aug. 5, 1927 in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He enlisted during WWII and served as part of the Japanese Occupation Force. He re-enlisted at the beginning of the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal after being wounded in action. He remained in the service after the end of the Korean War and served two tours in Vietnam and Thailand. After 20 years of service, he retired and worked at the U.S Postal Service. He was a member of their Competitive Pistol Team and won many awards. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Vallejo for many years and served as President of the State Commanders Office.
He married Beatrice Hamilton in Missouri in 1944 and they had one daughter, Gloria Jean. In 1954, he married Berta Ann Booker in Kansas and would have celebrated his 60th anniversary next March. He and Berta had nine children. He is survived by his current wife, Berta Ann Walker of Vallejo; his first wife, Beatrice Hamilton of Fairfield; his children, Gloria Carr of Vacaville, Kenneth Walker (Julia) of Montpelier, MD, Phillip Walker of Vallejo, Darrell Walker (Rosalind) of American Canyon, Duane Walker (Sharon) of Vacaville, Steven Walker of Vallejo, Sharon Vinson (Anthony) of Fairfield, Ingrid Johnson (Joey) of Fairfield; his brother, William Walker (Takae) of Visalia; his aunt, Juanita Walker of St. Louis, MO; brother, Edward Walker; sister, Nancy Walker; his brother-in-law, Emmanuel Cresswell and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many other relatives. He was preceded by his parents, Willie Norman Walker and Edmonia Walker; his daughter, Jennifer Lorraine Hill; his son, David Jon Walker, and his siblings Alfred Fransiour Walker, Merlene Walker Johnson, and Artrie Lee Cresswell.
We, the Walker Family, would like to thank you for outpouring of love, visits, calls, cards, prayers and expressions of sympathy shown during this difficult time.
Memorial services will be held Friday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m., Wiggins Knipp Funeral Chapel, 524 Capitol St., Vallejo.
