William Dauksis Obituary

William Paul Dauksis, 88, of Ponce Inlet, Fla., and formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed from this life on Sept. 29, 2013.

William was born on Dec. 5, 1924, in Hunlock Creek, to the late Joseph and Rosalia Dauksis, where he grew up. He moved to Philadelphia as a young man, working in the dockyards for some time before moving to Wilkes-Barre, where he built a home and started his own construction company.

After raising his family, he and his wife decided to move to Ponce Inlet, where he remained active with the Lions Club. He was honored with not only a lifetime membership but also the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow Award, which is the highest award given to a member of the Lions Club.

One of William's greatest loves, after his wife, Hazel, was being a building contractor. Not only could he build buildings, but he built a car as well. William held a registered U.S. patent for building a car powered by both battery and fuel far before it was ever popular.

William will be remembered as a man who was always helping people — whether it was for the Children's Activities Committee in Ponce Inlet or with maintenance projects around the Ponce Inlet Community Center, he always lent a hand. He was such a help that he was presented with the Citizen of the Year Award in Ponce Inlet for 2011.

William will be most remembered for being the best grandfather.

William was preceded in death by his son, Larry Dauksis; daughter, Cathy Townsend; stepson, Alfred Lambis Jr.; brother, Joseph; and sisters, Helen, Marie, June and Jean.

He leaves behind a loving and caring family which includes his beloved wife, Hazel; his loving daughter, Patricia McLean (Robert); and daughter-in-law, Susan Dauksis. William also leaves behind his brothers, Edward Day and George Dauksis; his cherished grandchildren, Ryan Dauksis, Pete Lumbis III, Kittie Ann Palmer, Patty O'Connell and Kristie McLean; and great-grandchildren, Nash, Alex, Maggie and Katy. Last but not least, William leaves behind his beloved friend, Shadow.

A memorial visitation is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 19, at the Lohman Funeral Home - Port Orange, 1201 Dunlawton Ave., Port Orange, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, the Dauksis family would like donations to be made in William's memory to the Ponce Inlet Lions Club, 4670 S. Peninsula Drive, Ponce Inlet, FL 32127.
