WOODBURY HEIGHTS, N.J. — Walter M. Raitter, 88, of Woodbury Heights, N.J., passed away on March 17, 2014.
Walt was born in Luzerne County in 1957. He resided in Oak Valley before moving to Woodbury Heights 33 years ago. He was a supervisor of electrical engineering draftsman for the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for 38 years, retiring in 1982.
Walt served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church, serving as a Eucharist minister and avid volunteer since 1963; a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 13259; a member of their Men's Club and of the Men of Malvern. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Yvonne P. Ruschalk; daughter, Livia Slavek; brothers Bill, Ed, Frank and Joe; sisters Wanda and Rita.
Walt is survived by his wife of 35 years, Livia N. Trama; sons, Dennis W. (Donna) Raitter, Kingsland, Ga.; John Slavek, Mickleton, N.J.; Lawrence Slavek, West Deptford, N.J.; daughter, Julie Raitter-Sandberg (Tom), Jamison, Pa.; brother John; sisters Jean, Peggy, Mary Lou, Alice, Ann and Betty; brother-in-law, Tony Trama; special cousin, Jim Forney; grandchildren, Rebecca, Nicole, Samantha, Ian, Arianna, Devon and Christie; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Friday until the Mass of Christian Burial at noon in the Infant Jesus Parish, St. Margaret's Church, Third Street,Woodbury Heights, under the direction of Davis & Wagner Funeral & Cremation Services, Woodbury. Interment with military honors will be in Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gloucester County Division of Senior Services Nutrition Program, 115 Budd Blvd., Woodbury, NJ 08096. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.daviswagner.com.

Livia, so sorry for your loss. Walt always made us Tobin's laugh.He was a great jokester and would love to kid with everyone he met. I know my mom always had a smile on her face when she talked to him, because he was so funny. He was a great guy and I will miss him.
