Kenneth J. "RIP" Whittaker, 50, of West Main Street, Glen Lyon, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Nanticoke on Dec. 22, 1961. He was a son of Veronica Chmielak Whittaker and the late W. Kenneth Whittaker.
He was employed by the Newport Township Fire Department until his retirement.
He was a lifetime member of the Glen Lyon Hose Co., the Italian American Sporting Club, Glen Lyon and the Sons of the American Legion Post 539, Glen Lyon.
Surviving are his mother, Veronica Whittaker, Sheatown; daughter, Hope Gernhart, and her husband, Thomas, Glen Lyon; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Thomas; step-granddaughter, Erica; sister, Sandra Whittaker, Sheatown; brother, James Whittaker, and his wife, Denise, Sheatown; three nieces, Lora, Alicia and Nicole.
Funeral sevices will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. in Holy Spirit/St. Adalbert's Church. Interment will follow in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Glen Lyon. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken's name to Valley with a Heart, 7 Alden Road, Nanticoke, PA 18634.
