WILKES-BARRE — Ruth A. McNeil, 89, of Wilkes-Barre, formerly of Ashley, died Monday morning, April 25, 2016, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born in Pringle, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ann (Walsh) Reese, was a member of St. Leo/Holy Rosary Parish and a member of Kingston Senior Citizens. Ruth lived in Ashley, until moving to Washington Square Apartments, then was a guest at Little Flower. She was employed at the VA Hospital prior to retiring. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Austin McNeil, and brother, John Reese. She is survived by her daughter, Molly Slusser and her husband, James, Hanover Township; three grandchildren, Christopher Slusser and his wife, Laurie, Hanover Township, Shawn Slusser and wife, Patricia, Yatesville, Tara Slusser, at home; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Kasidy, Mia and Mason Slusser, niece and nephews. Funeral service will be celebrated 9 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016, from the Lehman Family Funeral Service Inc., 689 Hazle St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Leo/Holy Rosary Church, 33 Manhattan St., Ashley. The Rev. Vincent Dang will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may visit 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Lehman Family Funeral Service and 8:30 a.m. to service Thursday. Miller, John R. "Jack"* - New Rochelle  
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — John R. "Jack" Miller, age 69, died peacefully on April 25, 2016, from advanced stage kidney cancer. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Wise Miller; his children, Jo-El Miller Shea and her husband, Declan Shea, and their five children, Stephen Miller and his wife, Janet Carpenter Miller, and their three children, Abigail Wise and her fiance, Graham Fisher, and Benjamin Wise and his fiancee, Jenna Mannix. He is also survived by his brother, Alan Miller and his wife, MaryAnn; and their two children, Justin and Brandon. In January 2005, Mr. Miller retired as vice chairman from KPMG LLP, a global accounting, tax and advisory firm, after 36 years of service. He had an extensive history in public service, having served as chairman of the board of trustees of the Osborn Retirement Community, chairman of the board of trustees of Wilkes University, a trustee and regent of the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York and as a vestryman of Trinity Wall Street, as well as Christ's Church in Rye, New York. Mr. Miller was a member of the board of directors, Customers Bancorp Inc. and Customers Bank. In 1968, Mr. Miller was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree, cum laude, in commerce and finance from Wilkes University. During his career, Mr. Miller received numerous awards for outstanding service and was recognized as a leader who exemplified and promoted excellence, outstanding leadership, high ethical standards and innovative management techniques. In 2002, Mr. Miller received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. Mr. Miller formerly served as chairman of the United States Comptroller General's Governmental Auditing Standards Advisory Council. Jack Miller most enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially when all the children and grandchildren would gather. He resided in New Rochelle, New York, with his wife, Sarah Wise Miller. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Graham Funeral Home in Rye. A funeral service will be held at Christ's Church in Rye at 11 a.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the following organizations: Kidney Cancer Association www.kidneycancer.org or Christ's Church www.ccrye.org .

Mirra, Anthony B.* - Virginia Beach  
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. — Anthony B. Mirra, 86, of Exeter, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Kings Grant House Assisted Living, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born in Exeter, he was the son of the late Dominick Sr. and Josephine (Naples) Mirra. Mr. Mirra was a member of St. Barbara Parish at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Exeter, and was a graduate of Exeter High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served his country during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he had worked as an equipment superintendent for Sordoni Construction Company for over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Mirra; brother, Dominick Mirra Jr.; sister, Anna Mirra, and daughter-in-law, Kathleen Mirra. Surviving are his children, David Mirra, John (Karen), of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Cynthia Browning (Wiley); grandchildren, Erica and Nicholas Mirra, Jessa O'Brian and Mark Mirra; also a sister, Mary Salerno, of West Pittston, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at St. Anthony of Padua Church (St. Barbara Parish), Exeter. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
