ONeill, Sharyn (Weiss)* - Slocum Township  
SLOCUM TWP. — Sharyn (Weiss) ONeill, 65, of Slocum Township, passed away on Nov. 18, 2014, with her family and friends by her side after a courageous, five-year battle with lung cancer. She was an inspiration to many, always smiling and laughing. She believed in the motto "carpe diem," living life to the fullest. Sharyn was born to Betty Weiss-Baer and the late Nathan (Sonny) Weiss on Sept. 14, 1949, in Wilkes-Barre. She graduated from Meyers High School in 1967 and earned her license in cosmetology from Empire Beauty School in Wilkes-Barre. Sharyn married her true love, John "Jack" ONeill Jr., on March 10, 1971. A mother and homemaker, she served for 15 years in the Rice Elementary and Crestwood High School PTAs and was a den mother for a cub scout pack as well as a girl scout leader. Sharyn was a volunteer with the Slocum Township Volunteer Ambulance Association for 10 years and was employed at Lord and Taylor. Preceding her in death were her father, Nathan "Sonny" Weiss; brother, Barry "Chip" Weiss; and stepfather, Morton Baer. Sharyn is survived by her husband of 43 years, John J. ONeill Jr., Slocum Township; her mother, Betty Weiss-Baer; daughter, Kendra Bevill, Los Angeles; son, Sean ONeill, Slocum Township; and grandchildren, Jason and Cameron ONeill and Kinsey and Kayla Bevill. The family thanks Dr. Adler, Dr. Lucas, Dr. Greenwald, the staff at Celtic Hospice and the friends who have helped with their presence and words of solace. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Desiderio Funeral Home Inc., 436 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top. Donations in Sharyn's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

COURTDALE — Dimitrius Ostapiw, 87, of Courtdale, fell asleep in the Lord on Nov. 24, 2014, in Geisinger South Celtic Hospice Unit, Wilkes-Barre. Requiem services will be held in St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Edwardsville, at a future date to be announced. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Edwards and Russin Funeral Home, Edwardsville.

Ostrowski, Bernard Edward* - Honolulu  
HONOLULU, Hawaii — Bernard Edward Ostrowski, of Honolulu, passed away at home, on Nov. 4, 2014. He was born in Taylor on Nov. 27, 1942, to Bernard J. Ostrowski and Margaret Delaney Ostrowski. He grew up in Old Forge and graduated with degrees from the University of California and the University of Oregon. He spent two years teaching psychology at the University of Guam and then taught for many years at Honolulu Community College and also, Hawaii Pacific University. He is survived by his son, Bernard N.; and daughter-in-law, Amy; and three grandchildren, William, Jeida and Tianna. Services will be at a later date. Online condolences at .
