Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with committal prayers at 11 a.m. in Maple Hill Cemetery Chapel, Hanover Township.

Demko Jr., Louis* - Wilkes-Barre Township  
WILKES-BARRE TWP. — Louis Demko Jr., 81, of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, in Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre. His wife of 54 years was the late Nancy Edith Ihnot Demko. Louis was born on Jan. 1, 1934, in Dorrance. He was a son of the late Louis Demko Sr. and Anna Prestash Demko. He was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School. He served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army as a private first class. Louis was employed for 35 years and retired on Nov. 30, 1990, from the Tobyhanna Army Depot. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Kaye, Ann and Helene; his brothers, Martin, Nicholas, Stephen and John. Surviving are his daughter, Susan Demko and her husband James Jasterzenski Jr.; granddaughters, Mercedes and Leah; grandson, James Jasterzenski III; his daughter, Kathy Demko; his son, Louis David Demko and his companion, Shelley Longfoot, and daughter, Jazmin; his sisters, Sunny Bruch and Mary Napolsky; his brother, Michael Demko; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home, 136 Maffett St., Plains Township, with the Rev. Paul Wolensky of Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be private in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Dirhan, Mary M.* - Duryea  
DURYEA — Mary M. Dirhan, 99, of Duryea and formerly of West Pittston, passed away on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 25, 2015, at the Celtic Inpatient Care Unit of Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. Born in West Pittston, she was a daughter of the late John and Ann Zboray. Mrs. Dirhan attended Exeter schools and was a member of St. Barbara Parish at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Exeter. Prior to retirement, she worked as a baker at school districts in Wilmington, Delaware. She belonged to the Cosmopolitan Senior Club, Exeter. Mary had a deep love for her family, church and friends. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. She was looking forward to celebrating her 100th birthday with her family and friends in August. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kalman Dirhan, on Oct. 9, 1997; a brother, William Zboray; and sisters, Irene Husosky, Anna and Helen Zboray and Margaret Buttaci. Surviving are her son, Coleman Dirhan, Duryea, with whom she resided; daughter-in-law, Diane Dirhan, West Pittston; daughter, Carol Engelhardt and her husband, Eugene, Boca Raton, Florida; grandchildren, Mark Engelhardt and his wife, Elisa, Dorian Holowicki and her husband, Kevin, and Dara Blomain and her husband, Erik; four great-grandchildren; and brother, John "Jack" Zboray, Nanticoke. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, St. Barbara Parish, 28 Memorial St., Exeter. The Rev. Michael Finn, pastor, will be the celebrant. Entombment will be in Denison Mausoleum, Swoyersville. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to St. Barbara Parish, Exeter, or the charity of your choice.

Elick, Shane Scott* - Hazleton  
HAZLETON — Specialist Shane Scott Elick, 20, of Grant Street, Hazleton, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, in Jenkins Township. Born in Baltimore, on Sept. 17, 1994, he was a son of Ann and Scott Elick of Hanover Township. Shane was a 2013 graduate of Hanover Area High School where he was a star wrestler. He participated in various other sports as well, loved movies and board games and was very family oriented. He was smart and totally dedicated to the things he was interested in. When he put his mind to something, he was determined to achieve his goal. Shane was currently a specialist in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the HHC, 3rd Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. During his service he received several awards and decorations including the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Air Assault Badge and the Aircraft Crew Member Badge. Surviving, in addition to his parents, were his aunt and uncle, Bill and Janeane Gorski, Hazleton; maternal grandparents, Ann and Ben Amos; paternal grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth Elick; John, Justin, Toni, Emily and Madison Elick, Joshua Byers, Christina Snodgrass, Lindsay, Jordan, Ryan and Matthew Gorski, Tiffany Voshell, Ashley Brenneman, Tabitha Ferguson, William Moore and Tina Byers. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Butler Chapel of Krapf and Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 530 W. Butler Drive, Drums. Jesse Shingler, pastor of Christian Covenant Community Church in Shickshinny, will preside. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until the time of the service. Family and friends may gather at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, where Shane's inurned remains will be laid to rest with military honors.
