SWOYERSVILLE — Ann H. Ruddy, 70, of Swoyersville, passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 14, 1943, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary O'Connor. Ann was a graduate of All Saints Commercial High School in Brooklyn. Prior to retirement, she had been employed for many years as a legal secretary in Washington, D.C.
Ann lived her life as a strong independent lady; the little engine that could was her mantra. While dealing with her own lengthy illness, Ann was active in fundraising for breast cancer research and treatment.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. "Jack" Ruddy, in 1979.
Ann is survived by her brother-in-law, Joseph Ruddy, and his wife, Mary Beth, Kingston; cousins, Mary O'Brien, Whiting, N.J.; Barbara and Leonard Paraventi, Wilkes-Barre Township; Noreen "The Kid" Jackson, Bear Creek Township; godchildren, Robin Jackson, Bear Creek Township; Ryan and Renee Jackson, Bear Creek Township; Kevin O'Brien, New York City; Gary Michael Klinges, Harding; along with several cousins and extended family members.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Michael J. Zipay officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
