Nov. 19, 2012
David Christian, of Nanticoke, passed away on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012.
A working man's hero, David was born 1941 in Nanticoke. He attended Nanticoke schools and learned the value of hard work at an early age when he began his career as a coal miner.
His wife Sandra was his first and only love, and together they were blessed with 37 years of happiness and unwavering commitment through thick and thin.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Julia and father, Joseph Christian.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; son, David, daughter-in-law, Jennifer; grandson, Trevor; cousin Colleen Benscoter and husband, Mark.
David was a U.S. Veteran who served his country with honors in the 109th Field Artillery Division.
As one of the last Northeastern Pa. licensed coal miners, he was relied upon by many engineers and experts for his hands-on acquired knowledge in this field. David was also the longest and oldest member of the local laborers union. Among the many trades he knew, his last proud day of work at age 71 was as a driver and operator for Shawnee Concrete.
Many of buildings, bridges and roads from his hometown of Nanticoke, to the tri-state borders were not built without the strong hand and quick wit of David's proud union labor.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed many exciting hunts and days spent fishing and shooting with his friends and beloved son, David.
David's pride and joy was his grandson, Trevor, who took his first coal mine tour with "Paw" at age 3.
Per his wishes, there will be no services.
Arrangements are by the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home Inc., 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke.
