Dorothy A. Peiffer

DALLAS — Dorothy A. Peiffer, 93, of Dallas, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at The Meadows Nursing Center.

Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the Dr. William and Hannah Nash Imhoff. She was a graduate of Shillington High School and Wilkes College, class of 1969. She also attended Linden Hall, Lititz, and McCann School of Business, Reading.

Dorothy was a teacher with the Dallas High School until retirement. She had also worked at Cacoosing Dairy, West Lawn, Pa., where she met her husband. During World War II, she worked at Consolidated Vultee, where she did drafting templates for military aircraft. Dorothy worked as a secretary in the superintendent's office in Dallas School District.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Junior and Senior Women's Club, Dallas Borough Elementary PTA, Dallas Borough Junior High PTA and Methodist Durbin Sunday school class. She was involved in Girl Scouts as a Brownie leader. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, Golden Mermaids of Misericordia University and was a season ticket holder for the Scranton/Wilkes Barre AAA baseball since its beginning in 1989.

After retirement, she pursued her lifetime love of bridge and earned a life masters from the American Contract Bridge League. Dorothy traveled throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe and Asia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Peiffer, in 1994.

Surviving are daughters, Patricia Peiffer, Dallas, Nan Batcho and her husband, Thomas, Springfield, Pa.; sons, Jim Peiffer and his wife, Jane, Baltimore, William Peiffer, Dallas; grandchildren, Thomas and John Batcho.

Dorothy's family thanks the staff of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, The Meadows and the Visiting Angels.

Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. Charles Grube, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, officiating. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park.
